Happy New Year! I try not to get sucked into all the hype around new year resolutions and all that crap. Really they are all designed just to make women feel guilty and overweight! YUK.
I posted a statistic on my Facebook page saying that allegedly 92% of people who set new year’s resolutions have given them up by February so there we go.
That doesn’t mean I think you should simply be winging it though. All women should have a plan, and not enough do.
That is MY goal – to help more women have a plan
A ten-year plan, a three-year plan, a one-year plan, a quarterly plan, a weekly plan and a daily plan. It gives us a sense of purpose and something to strive for.
I left you at the end of 2016 with a post about de-cluttering and with my new secret formula. Well not so secret as I am now on a mission to share it with as many women as possible.
As I have come out the other end – somewhat anyway – of my brain fog, my obsession with my own health, I can do what I love best – helping others in a bossy sort of way. My online course is up and live. I am extremely chuffed about that. I love just looking at the site.
Have you seen “Sliding Doors” with Gwyneth Paltrow? It is great, I love it. There is one bit in which her love interest John Hannah, says “I don’t know why but sometimes we are put on this earth and it is my job to take care of you…” So there we go. There are roughly 27 million women over 40 in the english-speaking world alone so that is a lot of gals for me to help.
Anyway lots of people have asked me about my activist bit
Well, keeping to myself what I have painstakingly learned over the past 2 years would be un-activist. So…with that in mind I will ask you – why bother to be healthy?
I really mean that even though it sounds stupid. When I look back on my stressy, frazzled self, I shudder and feel relieved that I am not as bad as I was.
I still have a tendency to over-work and lose work/life balance but I have better checks and balances in place. I suppose I can see that it is in fact quite easy to fall into bad habits and never get out of them.
To me, the reason to bother is so that you can can be a better version of yourself in this world now. Today.
It matters that all us women do this and not just grub around with a “good-enough” version of ourselves… When we are at our best, we can do great things and really take our contribution to the next level. Only doing fundraising to help the planet is a bit of a cop out I am afraid. Sorry but I see too much of that and it often doesn’t help anyone so we need another plan…
I have decided that by being healthy we can all help to fulfil these UN goals. You may think these goals are just for poor people, well no they are not. I think we should all be accountable to something, somewhere and these help us with our sense of purpose.
We will all feel better if we feel we are contributing to our planet’s greater good as well. Remember having a plan helps lowers your cortisol and floods your body with feel good hormones. You know about cortisol…
UN Goal 3 – Ensure Healthy Lives And Promote Wellbeing For All At All Ages
By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being
THIS IS US GALS WE CAN LEAD THE WAY FOR OUR FAMILIES – If we are in crap shape, we are setting a bad example to our children…
UN Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
By 2030, recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work
GALS WE ALL NEED TO STOP THE GUILT OF INVESTING IN OURSELVES WHEN WE FEEL WE DON’T DESERVE IT.
By 2030, recognise the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family
LIFE SKILLS GALS, LIFE SKILLS NOT GENDER BASED… WE CAN LEAD ON THIS FOR OUR FAMILIES
UN Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels
THIS IS US GALS – STOP EATING CRAP, BUY LOCAL, EAT LESS….SHOCK HORROR – OVER 40 WE DON’T NEED TO EAT SO MUCH ANYWAY
By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
THIS IS THE DE-CLUTTER THING
By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature
THIS IS US AGAIN, WE CAN SET THE EXAMPLE TO OTHERS OUTSIDE OUR FAMILIES WHEN WE ARE READY
So how to get there? Simple really – I will be sending you a series of 7 posts in the next 7 weeks with tips from my not so secret formula. Let’s do it!
